My Farm Life General Hints & Tips

Farm Layout
- Maximize your farm layout

- The ultimate key to this game is to organize your farm efficiently. I cannot emphasize this enough. With an efficient farm and preparation of the items to come on the next level, you should be able to do well.

- My final farm layout looked like the image below. I kept my equipment on the edges and would change the equipment out as needed to maximize the set up for upcoming levels.

- You want to plant at least eight patches of everything and you might as well do so from the beginning.

Set Up Future Levels
- You will want to take all of the available time before the expert timer expires to set up future levels.

- To do this, you will want to hold off on the last load to collect AND not use a helper just in case they decide to pick up your last load for you. This includes planting and watering and loading up machines as necessary.

- It helps to know what the next level requires so that you can prepare effectively. You can either play again if you find that you haven't set up quite right or just look down at the quantities for each level.

- Each piece of equipment can hold 4 completed items plus be preloaded for the next item or two depending on its recipe. For example, a popcorn machine can have 4 popcorns and 4 corns waiting to be popped.

- Each piece of equipment will show you in teeny numbers how much input you still need before it will start producing. The capacity for each ingredient is 4.

- Take any time you have left on the timer, to set up for the next level.

- If you care about getting expert times and can't do so, then take your time to maximize the set up for the next level since you will have even more time before the timer expires.

Expert Times
- You can replay the level at any time to get that expert time. The level will restart at where the previous level ended.

- Even better, you can replay previous levels after you get an expert time to set up for another level and not lose your expert rank.

- I found that it is best NOT to immediately replay a level if you do not get the Expert time, especially if you can maximize your set up for the next level and here is why:

- It is much easier to get the Expert time on a level you have missed if the subsequent level already has an Expert time because then you don't have to worry about setting up the next level and can just concentrate on the current level.

- If you find that you cannot get an Expert time playing through a second time, then consider going back a level or two to set the level up more effectively. By this I mean to get a bunch of your products pre-made and pre-loaded. It is amazing how much you can get done ahead of time if you know what to expect.

- If you find yourself getting 2 non-Expert times in a row, then you will probably want to go back and get those times improved by setting up better as it is only going to get harder and harder.

- Concentrate on getting your production items made first. Then pick your crops. As you near completion of your required items, take a look at the next level's requirements and start preparing ahead. When you do start a level where you have prepared ahead, be sure to pick those things up first so that your equipment can start producing again.

Carrying items--You can carry 4 of each item except for buckets. One trip to the water pump will fill up two buckets if you have them in your hand.

Animals--Unfortunately there is no easy way to quickly assess how many animals you currently have. Be sure to check the number at the beginning of a level. The nighttime rustlers will steal your animals. There are 4 geese per goose shed and it is easy to make sure you have the maximum number available per shed by buying until you can't buy another goose.

Farmhands are crucial to finishing levels in a timely fashion but just be careful not to use them as you are using your last bit of time to prepare for future levels as they will finish up for you! The nice thing is that they do not seem to collect things you don't need.

Thieves--At nighttime, the thieves will steal your crops and your animals. Unfortunately it is not easy to see when you lose an animal, so be sure to check occasionally at the beginning of a level to make sure you have enough animals.

Night Trader--Always check to see what the night trader has to sell. In the beginning you won't want to waste your money on buying anything except for super soil and cola. However, once you have purchased all the upgrades and are up in the 30's, go ahead and grab what he has to sell. The night trader will allow you to check on his wares 3 times before he goes away. Also go ahead and buy from him if you are replaying a level ti get an expert time.

Dogs--For some reason, I just didn't much feel like wasting 10,000 on buying dogs; so I didn't buy any. But go ahead and do so when you can afford them if you want. Personally I liked the extra space for more equipment and extra money to buy from the night trader.

Gear:
All equipment can hold 4 completed items plus 4 of each ingredient.
Popcorn Stand--Requires 4 corn to pop one bucket.
Blender--Requires 1 milk and 2 strawberries to make one yogurt.
Salad maker--Requires 1 cabbage, 1 eggplant, and 2 peppers.
Chocolate maker--Requires 1 milk and 4 cocoa.
Donut maker--Requires 1 chocolate, 2 eggs, and 2 wheat

Goose house--Need one house for each 4 geese. Each house can hold 4 sets of eggs. You will want to eventually get 2 houses and then at times have 3 houses.
Shearing shed--You can make do with one shed and 4 sheep during busy times. Just be sure to concentrate on shearing the sheep when they are ready.
Cows--Get as many cows as you want.

Use your machines to store items such as milk, eggs, and other ingredients.

Click on animals to hurry them up. Sometimes the animals will wander around; if you click on one, it will hurry back to eat or drink. Clicking on animal while eating or drinking will not hurry up its production.

Upgrades will become available as you progress through the game. During the Expert mode, you might not be notified when there is one available so check that upgrade tab for the red ribbon. Sometimes you might not be able to afford an upgrade during the first episode it is offered.

Getting cash--An interesting thing about this game is that whenever you sell something you get its full price back, so go ahead and sell things if you don't need them. Also when rearranging, go ahead and sell your seed bags because even if you only have one of them, you will get the full amount back. If you desperately want money to buy something, you can pick up 4 bags and sell the remainder. Then drop them by picking up something else and return to pick up 3 bags and sell 1 bag, then pick up 2 bags and sell 1 bag, etc.

You do not get paid to sell more than what is required so don't do it!

The walkthrough: Unfortunately this walkthrough cannot tell you specifically what to do. This game needs to move fast to get your Expert times. You do need to concentrate on getting items made with the machines first and then picking items that take a while to produce. I will make recommendations on quantities of plants and animals and maximizing the efficiency of your set up because this is very important. More importantly, if you just take a look at what is coming up in the next few levels rather than waiting until you get there yourself and finding out that you need to change your strategy, this will help incredibly.

Casual versus Expert modes. I have placed both versions of each level together in the walkthrough because the Expert mode just increases the quantity of items to pick in the same time. The overall strategies are the same, however.

Read the tips at the beginning of each Episode.

In Casual mode the first 4 episodes are a tutorial and don't offer you much flexibility.

Reorganize your farm to match the images if you like every few levels.

The timer stops when you are shopping, selling, or moving. Press on one of these buttons at the beginning to just take stock and make your plans.

WALKTHROUGH
Play the first 5 episodes as required by the tutorial and then go back and play again to maximize your start up. The only difference between casual and expert are some quantities so I have grouped them together and the strategies are the same. Images are from the expert version.

Lassoing Game
Honestly, I am not very good at this. All you have to do is survive this to get one trophy and at some point get 3 5 animal lassoes to get the other. Just do your best and don't sweat it!
