Orczz Review

So after my last post, I decided I need to play a game considerably more manly in order to redeem myself and hopefully end the teasing I’m getting for playing a game with my grandma… anyhow… when I saw the game Orczz, I immediately jumped on it and decided to give it a try. I mean… come on, it’s named Orczz… that has to be a kickass game right?

So after my last post, I decided I needed to play a game considerably more manly in order to redeem myself and hopefully end the teasing I’m getting for playing a game with my grandma… anyhow… when I saw the game Orczz, I immediately jumped on it and decided to give it a try. I mean… come on, it’s named Orczz… that has to be a kickass game right? The premise of Orczz is that apparently you have some really tasty mead in your kingdom that all the other kingdoms want, including the orcs. So the orcs have decided to invade your kingdom and take your mead… which we can’t have that now, can we? Of course not! It’s our mead, and we’re not sharing! So to war we go! The gameplay is somewhat similar to a Plants vs. Zombies style game. You have different kinds of units that do different things. Each unit takes a certain amount of time to produce. Before you begin a battle, you must select the types of units you will bring with you. In the beginning, it’s pretty easy. You only have a few units to choose from, so it’s really more to help you get used to the game. Once you choose your units, you begin the battle. [[Orczz-image1.jpg]] Each unit takes a certain amount of time before it’s ready to be placed on the battleground. It really is kind of like a chess game. You need to make sure you position your units in the right spot. The only difference is you don’t have all the time in the world to think of your strategy, as the orcs start coming right away. The more powerful a unit is, the longer it takes to be ready to place. And, just like you have different units, so do the orcs. So, you have to keep that in mind as they approach. Place your more powerful units so they do battle with the more powerful orc units. Later in the game, you do get archers and gunmen. Make sure you place an archer in the very back line… they will get pulverized by an orc field unit if you don’t. You will also start to get tools like bombs to use. These cost money though each time you use them during battle, so you have to be careful you don’t spend all your money. Before each round, you have to purchase new troops, so you want to make sure you have enough money to buy your more powerful units in the next round. The final line of defense are your catapults… but they can only hit an orc if they are in that last square, so use these only at the last minute and remember they take time to recharge too. [[Orczz-image2.jpg]] Overall, yeah the game was fun and actually pretty humorous at times if you take the time to read some of the messages after each board. Graphics were good for this type of game at least. I mean, it’s only units moving so there’s not that much to it. The game does pick up after the first few boards, so, if you think it’s a nice quiet strategy game, you’re mistaken… there’s a lot of high pressure clicking that you have to do. You have to quickly place your units, and then when an orc dies, you have to click on the gold coin he leaves behind before it disappears in order to get money for the next round. The only thing I would say is that it does get a bit monotonous once you’ve played it for a few hours… it’s kind of one of those games that can get pretty frustrating too if you can’t get through a certain board. But it takes some thought later on to really get through the levels. Anyhow… since I was looking for a manly game… Orczz definitely was just what I needed. It was tough, fun, and my grandma doesn’t play it… yet…
