Sweet Kingdom Enchanted Princess has me a bit stumped. On one hand, I enjoy throwing myself into the fray of time management games and hitting up challenging level after ridiculously challengingly level. On the other hand... sometimes the stress is a bit too much for me to handle, and I would rather just sit and build something at my own pace, just happy with achieving goals.

Title

Sweet Kingdom Enchanted Princess is a conundrum for me... and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

It's certainly a charming time management game, although the general story is vague enough for me to not truly care about what's going on. Something about the princess being turned to stone, and we need to hunt down certain artifacts in order to restore her. Whatever... just show me where the play button is and get out of my way.

I found the tutorial to be pretty exhaustive... and not in a good way. After 10 levels, I was still getting yapped at by talking heads. OMG, get out of my way... I'll figure it out for myself. It's not rocket science. I don't need you to hold my hand the entire time.

Heads

The graphics were cute and colorful, but I couldn't help but feel as if I was lost in the enchanted forest of Shrek... after all, your builders are clearly a rip-off of Donkey... tiny little gray donkeys march along at your orders wielding hammers, selling your wares at market, or dealing with troublesome goblins and trolls along the way.

I kept waiting for them to start cracking jokes about making waffles and peeling onions. What? I'm no stranger to talking ogre movies... I practically live next to Universal.

Graphics

Anyhow, every time your army of donkeys would begin negotiating with someone, they would make this noise... a quick garble of sounds that sounded just like a Jawa from Star Wars... you know... those little hooded things that sold R2-D2 and C-3PO to Luke and his Uncle Owen. So now, I have two movies stuck in my head... what's up with this game? Can't it come up with anything original?

The music was cheerful enough. A tiny little diddy that is easily forgotten, only there to simply fill in the space. The noises, aside from the voices, were a bit odd. The one that comes to mind the most was this crunching noise every time the donkeys would clear the road. It was like this extra crisp noise, like someone was taking a huge bite out of a fresh apple. It was just weird and made me want to go look for something to eat instead of save the princess.

Gameplay

I guess when it comes down to it... I'm not being entirely fair to Sweet Kingdom Enchanted Princess.... and I think the root of my issues with this game is simply that... well... I got bored.

Normally, I have a hard time tearing myself away from time management games. Just one more level lasts for a few hours...just ask my husband... but this game.... I don't know. It wasn't challenging enough for me to really try, and it wasn't relaxing enough for me to sit back and chill out.

It created a certain heightened level of anxiety in me... I would start the level off relaxing and then, all of a sudden, I would realize that time was almost up, and I would have to quickly make some key moves. But, if I was on top of things from the beginning... the level was over too quickly.

Princess

That's not to say it's a bad game. It's cute and charming and if I didn't have to worry about time at all, I could really relax and get into the game... or, if I did have to worry about time more... I could sit up and do some serious damage... but being stuck in between insane and a walk in the park just didn't do it for me.

Overall, I think Sweet Kingdom Enchanted Princess is a decent addition to the time management genre and certainly worth a quick download. I just wish it could have figured out what kind of gameplay was expected of me before it made it to my computer screen.
