Game Menus

Main Menu

New Game: Begin a new Westward II game.

Sandbox: Sandbox mode allows you to play in two different modes; Open Range and Disaster Challenge.  

Continue: Continue your game from the previous saved spot.

Load Game: Load a previously saved game.

Profile: Add, delete or create new profiles.

Options: View game options and adjust settings.

Awards: View awards received/available.

Help: Launch Westward II help pages.

Credits: View game credits.

Exit: Exit the game and return to desktop.

New Game Menu

When you choose to begin a new game, you will be asked to select one of the following heroes as your main character.

Marion Morrison: Marion Morrison was just a simple farmer before bandits drove him off his land. Now he's working to make sure others have a safe place to live. Playing as Marion will unlock the Windmill and Corn at no cost.

Maureen Fitzsimmons: Maureen Fitzsimmons is an adventurous young woman, always eager to see what's past the horizon. She's the daughter of a prominent banker. Playing as Maureen will unlock Banks at no cost, and allows you to start with a little extra Gold.

Terrance Stevens: Terrance Stevens is a mountain man and a trapper. He's used to living with the land instead of on it, and looks out for those who have earned his friendship. Playing as Terrance will unlock the Trading Post at no cost.

Sandbox Menu

When you first begin Sandbox Mode, you will be asked to select one of the following heroes:

After selecting your hero, you will be asked to select a map; Mine Map, Forest Lake or the Desert Map. Each of these maps will allow you to build your settlement in one of these different environments. After selecting the map, your character will present you with the following choices of gameplay type:

Open Range: Allows you to develop a settlement at your own pace. All buildings will be unlocked at the beginning and no natural disasters will take place.

Disaster Challenge: Steadily increases the rate of natural disasters while you grow your town. The game begins with low chances of environmental disasters and that chance increases over time, with experience and gold being awarded each time the disaster level increases.

Profile Menu

Delete Profile: Delete a previously created profile.

Create Profile: Create a new profile.

Return: Return to the Main Menu.

Options Menu

Full Screen: Select this to play Westward II in Full Screen mode.

Windowed: Select this to play Westward II in Windowed mode.

Resolution: Adjust the screen resolution in the game.

Detail Levels: Adjust the graphical settings in-game using either the Low, Medium or High settings, depending on your computer.

    Effects: Set to Low if you are having trouble running Westward II normally on your machine. When 'Effects' are set to low, only 2 of the 3 zoom levels will be available in-game.

    Buildings: Changing the Buildings detail level from High to Medium will lower the graphical detail of buildings.

    Terrain: Changing the Terrain setting from High to Medium will lower the graphical detail of environmental images.

Sound Effects: Use the slider to raise or lower the Sound Effects volume level heard in the game.

Music: Use the slider to raise or lower the Music volume level heard in the game.

Okay: Press to accept the changes made to the game options. These settings will be saved.

In-Game Menu

Resume: Resume playing Westward II.

Save: Save your progress in one of the save slots. To properly save the game, you must select one of the save slots. When saved properly, you will receive a confirmation message stating the save was successful.

Load: This will allow you to load a previously saved game file.

Options: View game options and adjust settings.

Awards: View the awards you have received while playing Westward II, or view additional awards available in the game.

World Map: View the Westward II World Map.

Quit: Quit the current game and return to the Main Menu. Before doing so, you will be asked if you would like to Quit, Save & Quit or Cancel.
