When To Hatch, When to Sell

Each pet and egg is different. Some pets are worth a lot, some are worth very little. Some eggs are worth a lot, some are worth very little. Some pets lay eggs quickly, some pets require lots of time to lay eggs. The following chart will help you determine whether or not you should try to hatch an egg or sell it.

  • Tip: Each egg has a 1 in 6 chance of hatching.
  • Note: Your difficulty level determines what your pets are worth. In Easy mode, pets are worth 70% of their purchase price, in Medium mode, 60%, and in Insane mode, 50%.
  • Note: Pets that lay eggs you should sell usually lay eggs at the fastest rate. However, these fast egg layers require more maintenance, so you will need to feed them often and keep them safe from monsters.

High and Low Maintenance Pets

Each pet you own requires a different amount of maintenance to survive on your farm. Some pets are often hungry and some pets are weak against monsters. Although it may seem silly to purchase high maintenance pets, they usually reward you with oodles of eggs. The following chart shows you which pets require lots of attention.

Pet Life Hunger Egg Time Maintenance Rating
Green Dragonfly 10 40 marks 10 marks High Maintenance
Goose 15 50 marks 15 marks Average
Gryphonette 20 60 marks 20 marks Low Maintenance

Save Your Dragonflies & Create New Eggs

In Greenwich Square, there is an apothecary who has an egg lab. You can use this egg lab to create new types of eggs. One important thing to note is that dragonfly eggs are magical. Therefore, when you mix and match eggs, make sure that you always include a Green, Blue, Red, or Gold Dragonfly egg. With the right egg combinations, you can create:

  • Green Dragon eggs
  • Ruby Gryphon eggs
  • Purple Dragon eggs
  • Golden Goose eggs
  • Firebird eggs.
Specialty Pets and the Tractor

As you get farther into the game and your herd of pets swells, it is difficult to make sure that all of your pets are fed, every eggs is collected, and that the monsters don't take over. To help you manage the load, there are several goodies in the game to keep you on track.

  • The Tractor--Make sure to collect all of the tractor parts. You can get them in Grimm's Farm, Hobbs Cottage, and Rosewood Manor. Once you have all of the tractor parts, take them to Wimbeldy, who lives in the Backlands. He will make a tractor for you. Once the tractor is built, you can use it in each farm to help you collect eggs.
  • Petriwood--Petriwood is a special pet that will help you fight monsters. Like the tractor, Petriwood appears in each farm. Petriwood is very strong and cannot be killed by anything, including bombs from Bomber Bird!
  • Bomber Bird--Bomber Bird only appears in the last farm, Pemberly Keep. Technically, Bomber Bird is not on your side, and if a bomb hits a pet, the pet is killed immediately. However, if Bomber Bird's bomb hits a monster, the monster also dies immediately! So if Bomber Bird drops a bomb in your farm and it looks like the bomb is going to hit a monster, don't blow up the bomb!
Magical Easter Eggs (Medium and Insane Mode Only!)

If you play the game in medium or insane mode, your pets will lay magical easter eggs once in a while. Unlike regular eggs, magical eggs glitter. Some magic eggs will help you, and some will hurt you. Be very careful when you see a magical egg on the ground. If it's a bad magical egg, don't pick it up! The following magical eggs are available for you:

  • Blue/White Egg--Feeds all pets, cures all poisoned pets.
  • Red/White Egg--Feeds all pets.
  • Yellow/White Egg--Makes all pets lay an egg.
  • Purple/White Egg--Kills all monsters.
  • Black/White Egg--Kills some of your pets.
  • Black/Green Egg--Poisons some of your pets.
  • Rainbow Egg (Insane Mode Only)--Feeds all pets, cures all poisoned pets, makes all pets lay an egg, kills all monsters.
Hints from Amaranthians

In this section, I have added lots of helpful hints from the citizens of Amaranthia Kingdom, the official Amaranth Games community. These hints come directly from the guides that the citizens have created for other players. If you would like to see the full hint guides, you will need to visit www.amaranthia.com. Also, if you find any of these hints helpful, you should send a PM to the people who created them. :-)

Shaz's Hints

  • I found it beneficial to save money and sell eggs from my one dragonfly until I had enough to buy a gryphonette straight away (at the end of day 2 or 3) and enough grain to feed both pets.
  • Each time you return to one of the sectors you may find things lying on the ground - if you are running very short of money and grain you can go between the hatchery and the sector as often as you like (without starting the day at the farm), to see if there is money or grain.
  • Don't worry if you're over half way through the game and you still have next to nothing to show for it. It doesn't mean you're going to fail so don't quit.
  • Once you have enough money for Hobb's Cottage, it may pay to spend another day or two working Grimm's Farm.
  • Once you are definitely finished with a hatchery and you know you won't be going back there again, you can sell all your pets for that hatchery.
  • If Petriwood starts far away from where monsters appear, "lead" him to the right area by allowing the monsters to wander for a short while, then kill them before they get too close to your pets.
  • When you see the bomber bird appear, follow it very closely with your mouse. If you click continually as you follow it, you'll be able to destroy most of the bombs immediately.
Tron's Hints
  • Don't buy more than three Green Dragonflies.
  • Don't buy more than 15 Gryphonettes.
  • Always keep at least 5 medicines.
  • If you only have Grimm's Farm, sell all of your Golden Geese, but keep one for the next farm.
  • In Greenwich Square, search for Rowan's lost money in the urns. Say you are taking it to give it back. Sure you can keep it and have 200 free gold, but by returning the money you drop the price of Hobb's Cottage from 1400 to 980, a 320 gold discount.
  • In Greenwich Square, purchase a Raven Sword or Silver Sword as fast as possible.
  • When you purchase Rosewood Manor, create Green Dragon eggs in the pet lab and hatch them. Once you've got two Green Dragons, sell the rest of your pets.
  • After you obtain the tractor part from Rosewood Manor, talk to Wimbeldy in the poor section, and have him make you the tractor.
DtD's Hints
  • Zap a Green Dragonfly Egg and Blue Dragonfly Egg to create a Green Dragon, sell the Green Dragon Egg for 10 coins more than if you sold the Green Dragonfly and Blue Dragonfly eggs.
  • Instead of selling Gold Goose eggs, try to hatch all your eggs, it would take 9 GG Eggs resulting as rotten to loose you money. (It is unlikely that 8 GG eggs would result as rotten) (NOTE: This works good with many other pets too.)
  • When working in the hatcheries, this is a good priority: Curing Sick, Feeding Very Hungry, Killing Monsters, Feeding Moderately Hungry, Collecting Eggs, Feeding Newly Hungry.
Phoenixgirl's Hint for Getting the Lightning Rod
  • The Lightning Rod is a secret weapon that is not available in any store. The Lighting Rod is so powerful that it will kill a monster with one click. If you perform some good deeds for a merchant's sisters, he will sell the Lightning Rod to you.
  • In Pemberly Keep, take the ruby ring.
  • Give the ruby ring to Metilda and she'll be grateful.
  • Buy an Ice Gryphon from Hatir in the noble sector. (Again, I'd recommend buying 2 or 3.)
  • Go to Pemberly Keep and collect the Ice Gryphon eggs that the Ice Gryphon(s) lay.
  • See Metilda's sister (Genevieve) and offer her one Ice Gryphon egg. (You only need to give her one.)
  • Talk to Aldab and choose the gossip option. He'll mention that you have been generous to his sisters and will now reveal his secret stash of weapons. Then choose buy items and you should now see the Lightning Rod available for purchase.
Astral_Sorecer's Pet Zapping Hints
  • Blue dragonfly Egg + Green dragonfly egg = Green dragon egg
  • Red dragonfly egg + Gryphon egg = Ruby gryphon egg
  • Red dragonfly egg + Green dragon egg= Purple Dragon egg
  • Gold dragonfly egg + Goose egg = Gold goose egg
  • Gold dragonfly egg + Icebird egg = Firebird
WVM2's Quickest Way To Win Hints

Just farm little dragonfly's, then get (after 4 dragonfly's) 6 gryphonettes. after you have enough for hobb's, take 5 days at grimm's, selling your 6 gryphonettes for 6 more dragonfly's. after you SAVE all those eggs, go to hobb's. after selling all your pets from grimm's, buy blue dragonfly's. farm eggs for 10 days with (5) blue dragonfly's, mix all the eggs. after you get all the eggs, talk to the alchemist. mix your blue and green eggs of dragonflies first, creating tons of green dragon eggs. hatch ALL of those eggs, then use the dragons as a quick-fix. use the eggs, to make more DRAGONS. after you have 10 green dragons (its a reasonable number to take care of) just keep hatching the eggs till you make more dragons. sell those extra ones for TONS of money. repeat till u can get rosewood, AND purple dragons, =) this should get you through the game quite easily.
