Basic Tips and Tricks (scroll down for tips on specific levels)

Defenders - Defenders are the lynch pin of your colony. The break up disputes, and keep your units from slacking off at their jobs. Make sure to keep Defenders stationed on your Farms as they'll keep your units from starving by keeping your Workers working.

Use your Markets - Markets are a great resource for shifting assets. If you're a little low on gold, use your wood to trade for gold, and vice versa.

Unit abilities - Each unit type has one building in which they function the best at. However, each unit can work anywhere. Take some time to familiarize yourself with what each unit can do at each building type.

Upgraded Academy - If a level goals require upgrading buildings, construct an Academy and upgrade it to earn the Academy Medal. This bonus will decrease the points needed to upgrade ALL buildings and reduce the upgrade wood cost. Also, Scholar earns 15 gold per cycle in this building, so it's a great investment!

Factory - An upgraded Factory speeds up the production cycle. This gives you more production loops in a given time, which can help in things like upgrading buildings and producing resources. The Factory is very very very important in certain levels! Once upgraded you can put there 1 defender and 2 Scouts/ Leaders/Merchants to have resources! Leaders are the best!
Without a Factory it is not possible to gain a yellow flag and pass the levels.

City Guild - An upgraded City Guild reduces the cost of the units and speeds up unit production. This is important for the specialist units, especially leaders, which cost a lot and can take a long time to build

The Academy, City Guild and Factory don't need to be 'staffed'. They do their work without units standing there.

A scholar placed at any building provides 10 upgrade points per production cycle. At special buildings, where there are only 3 spaces, you will want 2 scholars and a defender (usually). You have the option of placing 3 scholars and trying to get the job done faster, but if there is a clash there, it's generally slower in the long run.

If you have the chance, keep an eye on how many points are still needed on buildings. For instance, you may have 2 scholars working, but at the end you only need 5 or 10 points - you can move one scholar early, before the upgrade is actually finished, and get a head start on upgrading a different building.

Make a note of where different units produce wood. You can get a surprising amount from markets, for instance, and it can really help if you need just a bit more in order to build a lumber mill.

GENERAL INFORMATION

GENERAL UNITS:
WORKERS (Cost 50 Gold):
Are the only Units that construct buildings,  best used on Farm & Lumber Mill. Workers can collect Gold & a small amount of other resources relevant to the building they are put on or relevant to their specialties (i.e. gems on Mine or collect food & wood on different buildings).

MERCHANTS (Cost 75 Gold):
Can collect Gold from any building, can produce a small amount of other resources relevant to the building they are put on or relevant to their specialties.

SCHOLARS (Cost 125 Gold): Can only put points toward upgrading buildings, except @ Academy they can earn  15 Gold  per cycle.

SCOUT (Cost 75 Gold):
Can collect land resources and collect gems on a Mine. Can collect Gold & small amount of other resources relevant to the building they are put on or relevant to their specialties.

DEFENDER (Cost 100 Gold):
Can prevent disputes between Units if put on buildings before there are multiple Units on a building. They can rectify a dispute @ a building between units if placed on building. Should a dispute occur @ a building production ceases until dispute is solved, which takes some time. Can collect Gold & small amounts of other resources relevant to the building they are put on or relevant to their specialties.

SPECIALTY UNITS:
CULTIVATOR (Cost 200 Gold):
Can be purchased after a Farm is upgraded to 4 Stars, can collect Gold & small amounts of other resources relevant to the building they are put on or relevant to their specialties.

WOODSMAN (Cost 150 Gold):
Can be purchased after Lumber Mill has been upgraded to 4 Stars, can collect Gold & small amounts of other resources relevant to the building they are put on or relevant to their specialties.

EXPLORER: (Cost 250 Gold):
Can be purchased after a Mine has been upgraded to 4 Stars, can collect FOOD & WOOD from any building.

LEADER: (Cost 450 Gold):
Can be purchased after a Market has been upgraded to 4 Stars, can collect large amounts of Gold from any building along with other resources relevant to the building they are put on.

FARM: Used to produce Food & Gold
Cost: 150 gold & 250 wood to construct w/ 5 slots for Units
1 Star: 150 Wood w/ 6 slots for Units
2 Stars: 300 Wood w/ 7 slots
3 Stars: 600 Wood w/ 7 slots
4 Stars: 200 Wood w/ 7 slots

LUMBER MILL: Used to produce Wood & Gold
Cost: 400 Gold & 100 Wood to Construct w/ 5 slots
1 Star: 75 Wood w/ 6 slots
2 Stars: 150 Wood w/ 7 slots
3 Stars: 250 Wood w/ 7 slots
4 Stars: 100 Wood w/ 7 slots

MINE: Used to produce Gems & Gold
Cost: 50 Gold & 200 Wood w/ 4 slots
1 Star: 50 Wood w/ 5 slots
2 Stars: 100 Wood w/ 6 slots
3 Stars: 200 Wood w/ 6 slots
4 Stars: 250 Wood w/ 6 slots

MARKET: Used to produce Gold. Can transfer Gold to Wood or Wood to Gold. Units produce other resources relevant to their specialties on this building.
Cost: 700 Gold w/ 3 slots
1 Star: 200 Wood w/ 4 slots
2 Stars: 300 Wood w/ 5 slots
3 Stars: 400 Wood w/ 5 slots
4 Stars: 600 Wood w/ 5 slots

SPECIALTY BUILDINGS W/ 3 SLOTS & UPGRADE TO 1 STAR ONLY:
Note: Take longer to upgrade than other buildings. Benefits only take effect after upgraded.
ACADEMY:
Cost: 150 Gold & 100 Wood
1 Star: 250 Wood
Benefit:  Reduces point  & wood cost to upgrade buildings by 50%

CITY GUILD:
Cost: 200 Gold & 50 Wood
1 Star: 300 Wood
Benefit: Reduces Units price by 25% & decreases Unit training time in half

FACTORY:
Cost: 300 Gold & 300 Wood
1 Star: 150 Wood
Benefit: Decreases production cycle by 15%

LANDMARKS:
Highlight Landmark & it will highlight the area benefited by its resource. A small box with a check will appear on lots benefited by its resource.

MINERAL PONDS: Increase Food & Gem production 50%
STATUE: Increases Food, Wood, Gold & Gem production by 25% TREASURY; Increases Gold production by 75%

HINTS:
-  Last Minute added goals will only pop up after initial goals have been met.
-  When short on resources, check to see how many upgrade points are needed if more than 1 Scholar is on building, you may be able to transfer Scholar to another building or sell if only 10 points are needed.
-  Can transfer Units to different buildings or in a neutral area if a short term goal or long term goal is being achieved.
-  Look @ goals, layout, landmarks & resources given to plan level strategy.
-  Take advantage of landmarks even if it means demolishing a building.
-  Sometimes it’s best to work towards goals only & avoid other distractions.
-  Restart level if a mistake is made or strategy isn’t working.
-  Demolishing unneeded buildings can boost Gold & Wood resources.
-  HAVE FUN!!!

Bonus Level 3

You need to focus on getting as much lumber as possible to sell at the market for gold.

Get scouts early on to harvest the resources and place two scouts and a defender on the market. Because you need to recruit 15 defenders and 7 scholars, build two farms and have one farm full of defenders so they don't count towards the food quota. This should be enough to get the yellow flag.

Bonus Level 7

Yellow Flag Directions: Buy the second farm from the left to start, building a mine near the treasury and a mill near the tower. Upgrade the farm and the mine, staffing the mine quite a bit, filling in around the lumber mill with merchants to get cash.

Build the first market near the treasury and focus on upgrading it. Buy the rest of the farms as you can, building markets and upgrading them after the one near the treasury reaches a 3 star. Move merchants from lumber mill to markets as they're built.

You can eventually buy the treasury, then destroy the mine, replacing it with a market. You'll be able to staff it with merchants to hit the money goal with a bit of time to spare.

Bonus Level 10

Starting with this may help you:

1. Hire 3 scouts and harvest the gold
2. Hire a worker and build a Farm (not near the pond, save that for the Mine)
3. Recruit a Cultivator and put her on the Farm
4. Wait until you have enough money and build a Market
5. Recruit the leader and put her on the Market
