Find a Giant Beanstalk Seed

Go back to Peliad.

Peliad

In the main square, a newsboy is announcing that Queen Lydia has annulled her marriage to Edward and banned him from the castle. They need to go back to Thais to sort this out so head that way...

Thais
Go to Thais castle and Edward will speak to Lydia—and that's it. Nothing really is resolved at that point. I'm guessing there's more to the story in the next chapter of the game...

OK, now go back to Peliad.

Peliad

Take the north exit out of Peliad and go through Bristle Woods East.

Bristle Woods East
Go north and talk to the man there. The bridge is still broken—darn! But Yvette knows another way... the root system of the Great Tree runs very far, and if they can get the tree's permission to travel through its roots, they can reach the Granite Mountains! The Great Tree is located in Blueleaf Forest.

Blueleaf Forest
Go back to Blueleaf Forest and go east at the signpost to find the tree. Explore the area around the tree, especially to the west where you'll see a beehive. You can collect nectar from the hive every 15 minutes. Now go talk to the tree. He says he will allow you passage if you can help him be rid of the giant worm that has infested his roots. Ew.

Great Tree Root System

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image026.jpg

Make sure before you enter the root system that your whole party is equipped with all the best armor and weapons that Shaun the sheep has available...otherwise the brown worm

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image027.jpg

makes short work of you—I speak from experience. Sigh. Good thing I'd saved my game! Have June perform a poison ivy spell consistently and use an attack from above from Yvette (make sure she's in bird form), while Mel and Edward just continue hitting the worm. He's a tough kill, but you can do it.

Once you kill the worm, collect the loot and notice that a new passage has opened behind it. Using exits 4 and 8, you can get through the root system and get to the other side.

The monsters you'll encounter in the root system are ants

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image028.jpg

and beetles

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image029.jpg

. They look pretty icky, but they're not too terrible. Killing them is a good way to gain some experience, levels, and gold though!

As you explore the roots and find your way to the other side, pick up any thindle root or bat guano you see. Continue to head toward the northwest corner... and you'll exit into Wyrmbone Desert. The signpost tells you that the Granite Mountains are toward the east. Go east, and try to leave the map to enter the Granite Mountains... but the guard tells you the empress has blocked the passage. Now you need to go to Tyobi to see if she'll open the road for you.

Wyrmbone Desert

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image030.jpg

The monsters in Wyrmbone Desert are warthogs

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image031.jpg

and minotaurs

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image032.jpg

. They're definitely tougher than other monsters you've encountered so far, so try to avoid them for now. They're somewhat aggressive though, and will attack you if you're in range!

You reach Tyobi by following the path northwest through the desert. Although the desert seems larger, you cannot reach much of it from here. You can, however, go to the Circus all the way to the west of the map, south of the entrance to Tyobi.

Circus

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image033.jpg

The circus is important. June can get a Desert Staff for only 200g. You can buy the Fireworks trick for June and get a recipe of Ice Bombs. Yvette finds another familiar by the stairs on the left; she can learn a new bird form, the Mogpie, for 11,000g. Go up the stairs and open the chest—another empty bottle that you'll need later!
As you leave the circus and make your way to Tyobi, stop and check out the rooster wandering around in the middle of the desert.

Tyobi

In Tyobi, make sure to activate the MME, donate at the statue, and talk to the people in town.

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image034.jpg

Go to the palace and talk to the empress. She's got a one-track-mind...PIE! She won't let anyone through the Granite Mountains until she has her perfect pie. What one thing has to do with another... whatever.

Explore the castle—in the west wing, there's a crowbar. Grab it...now you can open all those rusty chests you find!

Go talk to the chef. He's in the kitchen in the northeast area of the castle. He tells you that his main ingredient for the pie he's creating has escaped—he's looking for a rooster! Hrm...didn't you see one of those wandering around out in the desert??

Wymbone Desert

Go back to the desert, cross the bridge, take a couple sets of steps down, and then head south around the water. Grab the rooster. But wait! He talks! Ohwell, the chef needs it anyway! Mel puts the rooster in her backpack.

Tyobi

Go back to the chef in the castle in Tyobi and give him the rooster. All the sudden, Yvette realizes that the rooster must be a familiar. Uhoh, did you just give the chef someone's loved one?? Better go back to Harakauna and find out...

Thank goodness for the MME that makes that trip there and back very quick and relatively painless.

Harakauna

In Harakauna, talk to Gretta the chicken. Oh dear, the rooster is Karl, her husband who was out foraging! Now you have to go rescue Karl from the chef before he becomes rooster pie!

Tyobi

Go back to the castle in Tyobi and ask the chef to get the rooster back. He says no—with good reason. There's a dungeon full of chefs who've tried to make the perfect pie...and failed! But luck is on your side (see, that's why you donate to the goddess every chance you get!)... While you're talking to the chef, the Empress's assistant comes in and takes him away to see the empress. Now he's gone, you can pry open the pantry door (using the crowbar you found earlier) and persuade Karl to come with you hidden in your backpack. He'll agree. Make sure to open the chest that's there—there's your hammer and nails so you can help out Willoby!

Harakuana
Take the MME back to Harakauana, as you enter town, Karl will rejoin Gretta and give you a rooster feather as a reward. A feather, seriously? On the other hand, you did originally sell him to a chef!

Go to Willoby's house if you have the necessary wood and hammer/nails, which if you've been following this guide, you have! Isn't he growing mushrooms to make a mushroom pie?? Now you can help him repair his window so the mushrooms will grow.

Once done, leave Harakauna and then come back-now the cooking contest is going on! In the center of town, you can sample all of the entries in the contest. Make sure to try all three dishes, and then vote... Vote for Willoby! :) As you leave the center, the winner is announced—go Willoby!!

Try to leave the area, and the mayor announces the winner, Willoby. Go talk to Willoby again and he will give you the mushroom pie. Hrmm... who wants a pie?

Tyobi

Now, take the MME back to Tyobi and talk to the Empress. She loves the pie and decides that she wants Willoby to become her new chef.

Harakauna

MME back to Harakauna to get him. When he leaves, take all of the mushrooms in his house and get the recipe for the pie from his bookcase.

Tyobi

MME back to Tyobi and talk to the Empress; now she is so happy that she will finally grant you passage through Granite Mountains!

Before you leave, make sure to go to the east side of Tyobi to the market. Buy and use the level egg. You might want to pick up the beast repellent as well, since some of the monsters in the Granite Mountains are pretty tough.

Wyrmbone Desert

Go back to the east side of Wyrmbone Desert and head toward the Granite Mountains; the guard will now let you pass.

Granite Mountains

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image035.jpg

You'll find you cannot really do anything right now, because moving around off the trail requires the ability to rock climb. Must be another thing you need to learn at an Intelligence Agency! So...go north at the signpost and follow the trail to Shoal Leiu. Try to avoid the monsters for now, and those little rolling rocks don't look like much, but they pack a hefty punch!

Shoal Leiu

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image036.jpg

Once you get into town, hit the items shop (you'll find the 3rd trick for June and some dynamite too!) Go activate the MME in the Southwest side of town, then go to the first house you encounter when heading east on that same cliff. There is a chest with a stone amulet in it. The amulet is handy to have; it will keep the Granite Mountain monsters from being able to turn one of your party members into stone!

Once you're done exploring Shoal Leiu, go east through town to the long steps; at the top is the Intelligence Agency. Now you can learn how to rock climb. It's hard, and I got seriously frustrated, but it is definitely a required skill to achieve the "find the seed" objective that you are working toward.
Some hints for learning rock climbing:
Use your keyboard instead of your mouse... Pay close attention to the movement of the rocks. If you get hit by one at any point during the climb, it's back to the start for you! Save your game in between levels to keep from having to always start over... J
Level 1: Wait until the rock is at the far left, then move in and stand by the wall. When the rock rolls back toward the right and passes you, rush to the stone steps and climb them.
Level 2 uses the same idea as Level 1.
Level 3 is harder, and tripped me up quite a few times. The rock moves much faster! For this one, start moving toward the "safe" area by the wall as soon as the rock rolls past you to the left—follow it. Then when it rolls back toward the right, you can climb the steps.

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image037.jpg

For Level 4, you can hop onto the stone steps along the way when the rock needs to pass you, and move to the down steps when you can.
Levels 5 and 6 require you to move very fast! Move to the next set of steps when both rocks are moving to the same direction; right for Level 5 and left for Level 6.
At Level 7, slowly follow the rock as it moves to the right. Don't go too fast, because you'll hit the rock and then have to go all the way back to the beginning!! I speak from experience...
Level 8 is pretty simple, and then you're at the top! Get the book as the trainer requested and step on the star to transport back to the bottom—at least they don't make you go back down the way you came!
Give the book back to the trainer. Congratulations! You have now mastered the skill of rock climbing and can maneuver the Granite Mountains!

Now that you know how to rock climb, you can climb the stone steps that are just to the west of the entrance to Shoal Leiu. You'll find a cave...with yet another illegal arms trader. Seriously, the empress doesn't seem to pay much attention, does she?! Anyway, before you go out into the Granite Mountains, you should definitely buy and equip as much gear as you can! If you cannot afford everything to start with, get what you can, go out and fight to get more gold, and come back for more...I found wandering around the desert to be easier to obtain additional money and levels to start with...

Granite Mountains and Crystal Caverns

Monsters in the Granite Mountains are rocks

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image038.jpg

and rockmen

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image039.jpg

, and in the Crystal Caverns you'll find emerald

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image040.jpg

and ruby

aveyond-the-lost-orb:image041.jpg

slimes.

Wander through the Granite Mountains and Crystal Caverns to make your way to the top of the mountains. In the caves, make sure to collect as many icebell flowers as you can; you can use them in the Purple Warp Egg recipe later! You can also find another empty bottle in the caverns. Find your way to the top of the mountain and you'll see beanstalks on a bridge. The seed's location is random; mouse over the trees to show a hand and click, you might find a seed. Of course, mine was on the very last tree I clicked on. Go figure. Find the seed, and then continue on your journey.
