Kelly Green Garden Queen Review

By morgan
10/30/2009
Move over Farmville, Kelly Green Garden Queen is going to give you a run for your money! This awesome farm game kind of rocks hard core. As some of you may remember, my family owns a farm so I know all about milking cows and getting up early. Did you know that cows weigh a ton? True story, my uncle was milking one once and somehow he got his finger under a cow hoof… smashed the top part of his finger right off. He now has about a quarter of his pinky missing… talk about gross.

Anyhow enough gory farm stories and back to the game… you are Kelly Green, and you realize your city life as a chef just isn't for you, so when you learn you just inherited your grandfather's nursery, you quickly pack your bags and ship out. The nursery specializes in providing organic flowers and herbs to local stores and restaurants. You also have a farm stand where customers stamp their feet and wait for the flowers to grow… ok obviously that part is not realistic.

So things are OK at first, but then you get the oh so annoying cow and you call in your brother for reinforcements. So now there are two of you running around trying to get things down. You have to place the pots down, put soil in them, plant the seeds, water, and harvest as quickly as you can. Oh and take care of the cow at the same time.

A word of advice… buy the upgrades as soon as possible. They will be an ginormous help to you as your run around trying to get everything done. Especially the bigger water tank. Every time you have to fill your water tank, you have to waste precious moments as it fills up.

Later on, you get even more help as you progress though the seasons and have to worry about crows and bugs and such. It can be challenging keeping track of everyone, but the good news is that you can store flowers in your shed so you can fill orders quickly when they come in. Just keep stock piling everything in the shed… they don't seem to die, which is amazing… Wish real farming would be this easy…

Oh well… schools going ok. Can't wait till Thanksgiving. I think I might have mentioned that before. From what mom says, it's pretty cold in Jersey… so I guess I'm not missing that. Also… hockey started… so besides the food issue… I'm sailing through the semester… well maybe not sailing… more like rowing… maybe I should play less and study more? Naaaaa….

Fishdom Spooky Splash Review

By cecelia

Well I have played all 3 of the Fishdom series games and they are all pretty good games. The first one was strictly Match 3 and you were limited to decorating one fish tank. Next came Fishdom H20 which was a hidden object game. I was born on Halloween so this one is my favorite so far. This one is back to the match 3 style and earning cash to decorate your fish tank, however this time you can buy and decorate as many tanks as you want. Some of the boards and decorations are Halloween themed but they are not very scary or spooky, just cute. As with most match 3 games you have special effects with dynamite and lighting rods to make things even more fun. There are frozen tiles that have to be broken twice and a lot more things to keep the game interesting but not too complicated. The further you go in the game the harder it gets. But you earn more money for the harder matches and that gives you more cash to shop and keep up your tanks.

I definitely appreciate that you can now buy and decorate as many tanks as you want. This game has no set ending so that means you get a lot of bang for your buck. Plus you get a screensaver for your desktop. The graphics are super, cute fish swimming by with colorful decorations. Fun, Fun, Fun. Sit back play this game and watch the rain come down.

Cake Mania Main Street Review

By morgan
10/15/2009
Hello? Is there anybody out there? Why are they teasing me with games about food? It really is getting too much to handle… Do you know what I would do for a slice of cake around here? One that was homemade and not stale from being left out for two days in a row? Ummmm I’m pretty sure if I didn’t eat that cake yesterday, I’m certainly not going to eat it today… especially since I recognize that crooked flower that someone poked their finger in.

Anyhow… still hanging in here at school… unlike all the other people around here, it’s not so easy for me to go back home when we have a day or two break. I’d spend most of the trip on the plane… although I’m thinking it might be worth it if I could just make it for dinner. Can’t wait till Thanksgiving break. I plan to eat myself into a food coma.

Speaking of food… I started playing the new Cake Mania game that just came out. It’s pretty cool. The one thing I really liked about it was that you aren’t just making cakes in one store. You are responsible for bringing new life back into Bakersfield’s Main Street. The big bad super store has driven out all the old businesses and the town has become dessert… I mean deserted.

Of course you start out making cakes, but then you quickly move on to all different kinds of burgers and flowers and so on. As you make money, you can buy things for all of your stores and upgrade them to fix up the town. You can also buy attractions to liven up the town. Unlike some time management games that can get boring because you are doing the same thing over and over again, Cake Mania: Main Street lets you move from store to store depending on whichever one you feel like working in.

I do have one tiny complaint, however, about this game. The speed… there are times when it is so slow, especially in the beginning before you can upgrade your equipment. Sometimes when I’m wrapping the flowers, I want to go take a nap… that’s how long it seems to take. So here’s a tip if you want to avoid waiting forever, save your money and buy the upgrades that accelerate the process for you. You’ll be happy you did.

Of course, I wind up playing these games late at night after homework and studying is done for the day, so when it’s 1 am in the morning and I’m making burgers in the game, it makes me extremely hungry… I wonder if my RA would notice a Foreman Grill in my room… hmmmm now there’s a great idea. I let you know how that works out. Till next time!

Hidden Game Gem: City Style

By anne
10/07/2009
There have been a lot of great games that have come out recently and I'm sure most of you have played the top games like The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy or My Kingdom for the Princess. But what this feature article is about is that hidden gem you may have missed this month. That game that you would have kicked yourself for missing out on. So before you move on to next months' winners, take a few hours to try this month's hidden game gem: City Style.

City Style is definitely a game you'll enjoy, especially if you liked the book/movie The Devil Wears Prada. Step into the shoes of our main character who is interviewing to be the assistant to the Editor-in-Chief of the city's hottest fashion magazine: City Style. In this hidden object game, you'll be challenged to clean up your boss's office, set up the conference room for guests, figure out what kind of coffee your boss likes, and every other crazy task your boss fires off at you!

The imagery in this game is spectacular, with real photos instead of illustrations for you to pick through and find the necessary pieces. Each stage has new challenges as you have to sort your way through tons of items to find the things you are looking for. There are even plenty of mini games in between finding objects where you get to design the cover of the magazine or select models for the day's photo shoot. If you're ever in trouble and can't seem to find that last scarf for this season's collection, don't worry, you can always rely on the hint button to help you out. While it won't give you the answer, it will draw a circle in hot pink lipstick in the general vicinity of where your object can be found.

So, if you've ever dreamed about what it would be like to work in a high pressure magazine in the fashion industry, then you have to give this game a try. Just like the book The Devil Wears Prada, City Style has you answering to a boss who's extremely intolerable and sets you on impossible missions. But each time you succeed, you prove to yourself and your boss that you are meant to be an editor in fashion. So, whether it's finding 22 purses in the dressing room or finding yourself high heeled boots to go into your interview, you're sure to have a blast playing this chic and fashionable game.

For all you fashion-crazed gamers out there, check out City Style the next time you're looking for a fun and fabulous game to play.

Zuma Revenge Adventure Review

By jasper

A cold snap in LA today. Finally a reason to stay inside and play some games (like I really needed one). Recently I've been playing Zuma's Revenge. I'm a big fan of the original so I was excited to see what new things the sequel would have to offer.

I was pleasantly surprised by a few the things. The graphics got a significant upgrade so the game is more pleasing to look at. There are also a number of new power-ups which are a lot of fun - my favorite being the ability to shoot out three big cannon balls to unleash mass destruction. Its great for corner shots. On some levels, the frog (who is on a real rampage of destruction this time around) can jump to different lily pads, so that's cool. There are also bosses to fight to open up new lands. One tip - after you beat a boss, pause for a minute and listen to the "spooky" sounds they make. They are kinda funny. The only thing that I thought was odd is that there is only one mode of play. Besides that, the game is a great follow up to a classic.

Time Machine: Evolution Review

By cecelia

When I was a teenager in the fifties when we would go to the movies and there would always be a short newsreel. Some of these newsreels would be about the future. By the year 2000 we were all supposed to be traveling around in flying cars. I thought that was the coolest thing ever and couldn't wait. Well, I am still waiting. Now my fondest wish is that I can zoom across California on the bullet train before I die! When I saw the new Match 3 Time Machine:Evolution I had to check it out. I love a challenging Match 3 game. This was not a disappointment.

You play a girl who wants to travel forward in time to rescue her father. But in this game that really cares about the story, you don’t have time to think about it. You use a paint gun down at the bottom of the screen which is filled with 3 different colors to blast the shapes on screen. Fast play, great power-ups and super graphics. This is not a game for sissies. I can't even begin to tell you all the goings on. Every level gets harder and more fun. There are also puzzles in between levels to keep you busy as if the game itself wasn’t enough. You MUST download this game . I can't think of one thing I didn't like about it.

Once Upon a Time in Chicago

This is a nice little game to pass the time. At first I didn't really understand what was going on because I hadn't played a game similar to it, but its very simple once you figure it out. Just drag the balls onto matching spots on the cards. Once you fill up a card, you get to play a little mini-game. If you enjoy card games or slots, you'll likely enjoy playing this one.

Cooking Dash DinerTown Studios

By morgan

Dear Mom:

What I wouldn’t give right now for a plate of your spaghetti and meatballs. The food here was obviously meant to feed the pigs, although to tell you the truth, I’m not even sure they would touch this stuff. I’m dreaming of mountains of lasagna, roast turkey, and pumpkin pie. But as I count the days left until I can come home for winter break, I’ve decided to try the new Dinertown game to hold me over.

Now, the other Dinertown games weren’t that much fun for me before, so I had my doubts about just how challenging a game this was going to be. As I told you many times before, I’m an expert at time management games, although I’m not sure you know what those are yet… yes, it’s those computer games I play. Yes, I made sure all of my homework was done before I played… yes, my room is clean. No, I’m not eating enough... weren’t you listening? Send food now!

Anyhow, as I was saying, putting my doubts aside, I began playing Cooking Dash Dinertown Studios. I was pleasantly surprised at the setup. Of course, the main character is still Flo, but grandma is there to help you cook too. Your restaurant is on the set of your friend’s new show and your job is to cater to all the stars and crew.

In the kitchen, there is so much stuff to do! You have a fryer, a grill, an ice cream maker, a meat grinder, and a prep table where grandma prepares additional dishes. A big challenge was trying not to burn the food… and mom, just because I burn grilled cheese, does not mean I can’t cook… well OK maybe it does. Anyhow so if you leave the food in the fryer too long or on the grill too long, you can burn it. And if you put the wrong combination on the plate, there is no way to fix it! You have to start all over again.

And talk about fast paced action! I think that Flo and grandma could beat even you in the kitchen mom! No, I’m not saying the food is better… I would never suggest that. Yes, you’re the best cook ever. No one comes close. OK, I’ll shut up now…

Anyhow, as I was saying, Flo runs around like crazy serving guests, preparing food, and snapping pictures of movie stars. After each board, you can upgrade your kitchen wares or decorate the place. Take it from me, while it’s nice if the place looks better, spend the money on the upgrades first, specifically making Flo and grandma go faster! Things really start to speed up when the impatient business women start showing up. They want their food and they want it an hour ago!

So mom, I want you to know that I was a pro at this game and hopefully it will help me in the kitchen when I come home. I look at it as a kind of training really…

Anyhow, in conclusion dear mother, while the game is great fun, it still is no substitute for your home cooking.

Your loving daughter, Morgan
